The Rib Club is designed to make getting out on the water as easy as possible. Please see below our frequent asked questions to see how The Rib Club works:

Q. What is the maximum number of members per boat?

A. Each boat will have a maximum of 5 members, which will give them approximately 10 weeks a year of usage. This is broken down to three weekend sessions and six week day sessions a month. (Every day is broken down to a morning and afternoon session)

Q. Who is responsible for the cost of re-fuelling and cleaning the boat?

A. The members will be responsible for re-fuelling and cleaning the topside of the boat at the end of their session, leaving it ready for the next Club member. The boat will have a monthly valet carried out by the RIB Club Staff to keep it in pristine condition.

Q. What happens if the boat is damaged and out of service?

A. The Rib Club will immediately address any damage. If the boat is out of use for a qualifying period The Rib Club will charter a replacement boat or members will be given a pro-rate refund of the monthly fee for the period the boat is unavailable.

Q. Can I be a joint member with friends?

A. Yes, memberships are not restricted to single families. For example if two families want to share the membership this is possible and a selected member of each family will receive the training when joining.

Q. What can I use the Rib for?

A. Ribs are great all round boats which handle varying sea conditions and can be used as a platform for various different activities. From a spot of fishing, to taking your friends wakeboarding or waterskiing, exploring the coastline or just popping out for a picnic, a Rib is a perfect way to get out and enjoy the water.

Q. What experience does one need to join the Rib Club as a member?

A. None. The Rib Club will provide full training to RYA Powerboat Level 2 and VHF Training so that their members become competent and safe. A familiarisation session will also be run within the local area so that they are familiarised and aware of any local hazards and Bye Laws.

If potential members already have qualifications, an Induction and assessment will be carried out by The Rib Club with the prospective members to check their ability and competence.

Q. What are the specifications of the boat?

A. All the Rib Club Ribs will be MCA Coded to category 4 which will provide them with the full safety equipment for usage within 20 miles of the shore. They will also be fitted with the Garmin GPS map 550s.

Q. Are there any other maintenance or upkeep fees?

A. The membership will cover all of the costs. The only liability is the insurance excess should you have an accident which is partly or entirely your fault.

Q. How many people can the Rib have on it safely?

A. The maximum number of people will be dictated by what it is coded to carry. For example the 6 metre Ribeye will be coded for a maximum of 8 People.

Q. How do I book the Rib?

A. An online booking system will allow all 5 members to see a joint calendar and book in the sessions they wish to use the boat.

Q. How often can I use the Boat?

A. Every day is divided into three sessions... 8:00-12:00, 12:30-16:30 and 17:00-Dusk. Each member will be allocated 6 weekday and 3 weekend sessions a month on a 12 or 18 month membership. Members will be allocated 4 weekday and 2 weekend sessions a month on a 4 or 6 month membership.

Q. Are there restrictions on where I can take the Rib?

A. The only restrictions on where you can take your Rib is to stay within 5 miles of the shore, therefore a day trip to the Isle of Wight for example is possible. The other restriction is that you must be back in a Marina one hour before sunset as the Rib is not coded for night time use.

Q. How do you cope with Irresponsible Members?

A. If the boat is not left as it should be, fully fuelled and clean, and the next member using it is unhappy they will be responsible for informing The Rib Club. The Rib Club agreement will make provisions for members who abuse the Rib Club policies to be fined or ultimately removed from the scheme.
